EMCDDA Management Board

Introduction

The Management Board is the main decision-making body of the EMCDDA. It meets at least once a year and consists of one representative from each Member State of the European Union, Norway and Turkey, two representatives from the European Commission and two representatives designated by the European Parliament.

The Management Board is the main decision-making body of the EMCDDA. It meets at least once a year and consists of one representative from each Member State of the European Union, Norway and Turkey, two representatives from the European Commission and two representatives designated by the European Parliament. The Chairman of the Board is elected to serve for a three-year period.

The system of national representatives ensures that the interests of all European citizens are fully represented in the Management Board's decisions. Every three years, the Board adopts a three-year Work programme for the Centre. It also adopts an annual Work Programme for each coming year, an annual budget and the Centre's annual General report of activities.

The Executive Committee consists of the Chairperson and the Vice-Chairperson of the Management Board, two other members of the Management Board representing the Member States and appointed by the Management Board and two Commission representatives. The Executive Committee meets five to six weeks before each Management Board meeting to prepare for the latter in consultation with the Director. In accordance with Article 2 of the rules of procedure of the Board, the Executive Committee may also, in consultation with the Director, decide on behalf of the Management Board on the matters foreseen in the EMCDDA financial regulation which are not reserved to the Board by the EMCDDA founding regulation, and make the necessary adjustments to the work programmes previously adopted by the Board. The Director of the Centre also attends these meetings.
